Strawberries are tasty fruit and a favorite treat among us humans. Most people love to snack on strawberries, and most people love to share their snacks with dogs. As pet parents, we know how important it is to make sure we only share snacks with our pets that are safe for them to eat. Sometimes it can be hard to know what they can eat or not (grapes and raisins are HUGE no-nos); however, among the many dog-safe fruits, juicy strawberries are perfectly safe for dogs.
Not only do most dogs love the juicy sweetness of strawberries, but they are also a super healthy treat for them. Strawberries are filled with nutrients and antioxidants can be good for your dog, including fiber, vitamins C, B1, B6, and K, a teeth-whitening enzyme, potassium, iodine, magnesium, and folic acid. Strawberries can help your dog's digestion and even give a little boost to their skin and coat health.
Keep in mind that the only strawberries you can give your dog are fresh strawberries. Stay away from canned or strawberries in syrup. These have added sugars and other components and can be toxic to your dog. It is also important to limit the number of fresh strawberries you give your dog. They do have a high water content, which is good, but they also have a high sugar content, which can cause a stomach upset in your pup. If you do decide to give your dog strawberries, start slowly with small quantities and work your way up. Watch for any changes in behavior or digestive issues, such as diarrhea or vomiting.
