Question:

What can I give my dog for hip dysplasia human medicine 💊

Answer:

Hey! I recommend that you bring your dog to their vet to get checked out! They'll be able to prescribe pain medications that are suitable for dogs. You could start your dog on a joint supplement in the meantime! -Dr. Lindsay Butzer https://www.1800petmeds.com/phycox+max-prod12041.html https://www.1800petmeds.com/nutramax+cosequin+joint+health+supplement+for+dogs+with+glucosamine+and+chondroitin-prod10317.html

Question:

Can i safely feed Hyaluronic Acid and boswellia serrata along with glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM and flax seed meal to a dog with hip dysplasia?

Answer:

Hey! Yes you can give all of these at once. For the Boswellia, make sure the dose is not high or else this can cause diarrhea. I hope this helped. Dr. Lindsay Butzer

Question:

I have a 7 year old lab husky mix who is very athletically built and active. She recently cried out upon standing a couple days in a row so I got her an xray and they said significant hip dysplasia on her right hip. Her stance is close together on the back end but besides that she exhibits no signs of disease. Would surgery- like FHO or THR- soon be the best step for her? Or since she is still active would supplementation and exercise/ PT be the best approach? I am trying to figure out if the surgery will give her more comfortable years and be preventative of future pain or if it would cause more issues because she isn't so far advanced that she needs the operation and potential complications? Thank you for your opinion!

Answer:

Honestly, I would need to look directly at her x-ray and examine her to give you the best advice - this is always a hard call and very individualized. It totally depends on the severity and how uncomfortable she is, so continue to speak with your veterinarian who has access to all of that information.

Question:

My golden doodle has bad hip dysplasia. We currently give her 2 gabapentin a day and a half ofdermal. Is it okay to give an additional gabapentin?

Answer:

I would need to know how much she weighs and how her last bloodwork looked (liver function, kidney function, etc.) to be able to answer that so consult your veterinarian for the best advice.

Question:

I was playing fetch with my medium sized Beagle mix and while he was chasing the ball he all of a sudden just stopped like her hind legs were lame and went to lay down. I picked him up and carried into the house thinking he is tired (very unusual for him) but whenever he tries to walk his hind legs stay weak and he almost just drags his paws trying to walk. He doesn’t seem to be in any pain and has a wagging tail. Any suggestions?

Answer:

It's hard to guess what is going on with him without examining him - could be many thigns (back pain, hip pain, knee pain, etc.) so have your veterinarian check him out if it continues or worsens. Restrict his exercise (no running jumping playing) until then.

Question:

My 3 year old Pyrenees suddenly developed severe pain in her back hips - only affects her when she gets up or runs uphill and then she yelps in pain. Otherwise she runs & walks normally- no limp. Hip dysplasia?

Answer:

Hip dysplasia is certainly possible. Have your veterinarian examine her to confirm (and rule out many other causes) and determine appropriate potential treatment options. Here is a link to our article all about hip dysplasia: https://www.1800petmeds.com/education/hip-dysplasia-dogs-2.html

can ammoxicillian be used as an anti inflamatory and pain

Answer:

No - Amoxicillin is an antibiotic for infections - it does nothing for pain. (Unless there is an infection of some kind, which there usually isn't with hip dysplasia.)

Question:

My 14 year old German Shepherd has my lap at the right rear leg crosses inward towards the left. Any brace or harness that would help stabilize that leg

Answer:

I would need to see what she is doing, look at her x-rays and examine her to really make any recommendations. In general, braces don't help unless they are custom made for the dog by an orthopedic specialist, so asking for a referral to a specialist would be a great option.
