Dogs are notoriously known for gratefully chowing down on anything and everything they can get their paws on. Also, some pet parents are notoriously known for sharing food with their pups. Sharing food with your pet can be great, as long as it's done in moderation and they are fed foods that are safe to ingest. There are many foods, including fruits and vegetables that are healthy and beneficial for dogs, which they love!
One fruit in particular, the orange, falls on the list of dog-friendly fruits. The verdict: yes, oranges are a safe and healthy treat to give to dogs. In fact, oranges are packed with nutrients and provide many health benefits for dogs. Oranges are high in Vitamin C, which can be great in boosting the immune system, especially if toxic substances have been ingested, like onion powder or propylene glycol. Vitamin C is also known to aid the body in healing wounds. In addition, oranges are also rich in fiber, which is great for your dog's digestive system.
Be mindful of how many pieces of orange you give your dog, especially if your dog is diabetic. While they are healthy for dogs, they also contain very high sugar content, which can be harmful when too much is ingested. It's possible that eating too many oranges can cause GI upset and lead to diarrhea or vomiting. Because of the high acidity content, you might want to limit your dog's orange consumption if they have a sensitive stomach. It's also important to not let your pet eat the skin of the orange. Not only is the orange skin indigestible, it can also cause an obstruction in your dog.

  • Lemons (in small quantities)
